This report is the summary of a consultation held at St George’s House organised by Local Trust which asked: how can community-led neighbourhood regeneration succeed?
In November 2023, we invited a group of researchers and practitioners to St George’s House at Windsor Castle to answer a fundamental question: how can community-led neighbourhood regeneration succeed? The resultant report looks back on 30 years of attempts at neighbourhood regeneration from single regeneration budgets to elements of the levelling up agenda and considers what the key lessons are for this government.
It was informed by research commissioned by Local Trust from the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research, Onward, and the University of Cambridge. The discussion had two goals: first, to reflect on both Labour and the Conservatives’ recent efforts to tackle neighbourhood decline, exploring what has worked (and what hasn’t). And second, to help policymakers begin to map out a new approach.
