Podsmead has a population of around 3,100 people and is a natural community because of its location, tucked behind the industrial area of Bristol Road and between two key trunk roads. Podsmead lies approximately three miles south of the city centre and sits on the main road into the city, linked to various trading estates, works and warehouses.

Due to the design of the estate there is a natural focus around an underused green space and the local shop. Some activities are run from a ramblers/community association building. There are links with the neighbouring ward of Linden, particularly as it contains the nearest primary school.

Since being announced as a Big Local area, work has been underway to engage residents through Facebook, door knocking, public meetings, newsletters, a summer fate and the newly opened Big Local Hub Building (formally a closed community facility).

A group of 25+ residents and local workers have been regularly attending meetings and taking on actions to progress areas of work including communications, youth, consultation and the running of the hub. Membership is open to anyone. We are also recruiting street champions, people who have knowledge of the Big Local program and can share this with their neighbours.
