StreetGames offer support to Big Local areas who want to establish community-led sports projects

May 2019

You might be interested in working with StreetGames if your Big Local partnership has prioritised health and wellbeing, community cohesion and wants to get an exciting, visible project off the ground.

StreetGames has worked with 4 Big Local areas, including Dyke House Big Local, to establish sports projects that have engaged their communities in healthy activity and trained individuals in coaching and facilitating.

“StreetGames are delighted to be working within Big Local communities to support the nurturing and development of local assets to help create lasting change using the power of sport.” StreetGames

"StreetGames encouraged me to think about inspiring leadership in others to motive people to take part – and I do that by giving them the lead on different parts of the session." Callum, Dyke House Big Local

You can find more about Dyke House Big Local’s experience of working with StreetGames in Callum's blog.

How does it work?

StreetGames will offer a free scoping visit to your Big Local area. This will be a chance to meet face to face with the team and work out whether StreetGames can offer the right kind of support for you.

if you choose to work with StreetGames, they will support your Big Local partnership to design and develop a community sports programme which is responsive to your community's needs. They will be on hand as a critical friend throughout the design phase and during delivery, if needed.

StreetGames also provide training through the delivery phase to build capacity in your area, giving residents new skills and confidence to deliver future community sports programmes and create a sustainable model.

We want this support to fit your partnership’s schedule and StreetGames will be able to match whatever pace you set. Designing and developing your community sports programme will take around 6 months and delivery of the programme will probably take place over the following year.

How do I find out more and get this partnership started?

If you want to discuss the offer or find out how it could work for your Big Local partnership, please get in touch: programmes@localtrust.org.uk.

If you’ve had a chat with us already, or you’re confident you want to explore working with StreetGames, please fill out the Expression of interest form. Once you’ve filled out the form, we can get the scoping day organised.

StreetGames' support will be available until 2021 or as long as Big Local areas need it. The first group of areas will begin in summer 2019, with the offer open between the 27th of may to the 26th of July. The offer will be open to more Big Local areas in autumn 2019 and in spring 2020. There will be room for up to 3 Big Local partnerships to take up the full offer at each stage.

How much does it cost?

Local Trust will cover the cost of the scoping visit. This is to make sure your Big Local does not have to commit to partnering with StreetGames until you’ve had a chance to experience the support first hand.

StreetGames support costs £360 per day and Local Trust will match fund 50% of the costs of up to 10 days of support, during the design and development of your community sports project. This means Local Trust will match your Big Local contribution up to £1800.

Local Trust will then also match fund up to £10,000 for the delivery costs and this will be drawn down directly to your Locally Trusted Organisation.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about the funding or want to explore a full cost breakdown: programmes@localtrust.org.uk.
