Worker Development Programme

In 2023, Local Trust worked with Peas in a Pod Consulting to host four Big Local Worker Network Events. The content for these events has been shaped by workers themselves, to align with their support needs at this stage of the Big Local programme.

Responding to the request for ongoing support, we took the learnings from these events and partnered with Peas in a Pod Consulting and Koreo, to design a six-month learning initiative tailored for Big Local workers. The Worker Development Programme began in April and ended in October 2024.

Read reflections from the programme and access helpful resources.

What are the benefits to workers of taking part?

Participating in the Worker Development Programme will:

  • Support your professional development, providing opportunities for you to refine your existing skills and acquire new ones, paving the way for career advancement.
  • Equip you with the necessary tools and confidence to effectively navigate the close out period and conclude the Big Local programme successfully. This in turn will positively impact your Big Local area and the broader communities you serve.
  • Connect you with other Big Local workers and expand your network. You will have space for reflective practice, to share challenges and successes and to learn from others.
  • Give you access to support tailored to your needs and context, including one-to-one coaching sessions and facilitated peer-to-peer learning.
  • Enable you to contribute to the growth of the wider community development sector, strengthening your skills as champions of community-led change.

The programme has been designed so that you will feel heard, seen, recognised, valued, more confident and less alone in what we know can sometimes be a lonely role.
