A level playing field

17 Dec 2019

How is sport helping communities to overcome challenges and break down barriers?

Narrated by Ryan Herman, author of the essay ‘A level playing field: how sport can unite and transform communities’, this podcast looks at the benefits of community-led sport, through the stories of several Big Local areas who have chosen to invest time, energy and funds into sports from BMXing to Boxing. A passionate and lively discussion, the podcast touches on the disparity between our love for sport as a nation and the lack of investment in sport at a local level, considering how policy makers can best support grassroots projects and what the benefits could be of doing so.

Chaired by Matt Leach, chief executive of Local Trust with contribution from Gary Widdop from Dewsbury Moor Big Local, Stephen Perez from Arches Big Local, Jo Melchior sports development manager, Simon Lansley, chief executive of Connect Sport, Carl Adams founder of Primal Roots and Big Local Rep and Ryan Herman, sports journalist, essay author and Local Trust journalist-at-large.
