Read moreWe are pleased to announce that Rosie Chapman has been appointed by the National Lottery Community Fund as Protector of Big Local Trust. Her role will be to ensure that the administration of the Big Local programme accords with the expressed wishes of the funder.
Big Local provides over £1 million to each of 150 neighbourhoods in England to spend over a 10-15 year period. It hands over control to local communities to improve their areas, providing the support, training and assistance they need to make the most of this unique opportunity.
A former Director of Policy & Effectiveness at the Charity Commission and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Rosie has a detailed knowledge and sophisticated understanding of charity governance and regulatory frameworks. She is the Chair of the Steering Group which oversees the Charity Governance Code and a former advisor to the House of Lords ad hoc Committee on charities.
Kevin Sugrue, Chair of Local Trust, who administer the programme, commented: “We warmly welcome Rosie Chapman as our Big Local protector. We feel fortunate to have someone of Rosie’s extensive experience and expertise as we enter the high point in the delivery of this pioneering programme, which we believe will have such a crucial bearing on future policy towards and investment in left behind communities. Rosie’s knowledge of and commitment to this cause will, I am sure, prove an added bonus in this delivery phase and as we address the key issues of legacy and learning for the future.”
Rosie Chapman said: “I’m delighted to be appointed to the role of Protector. There is no doubt that the Big Local programme is inspiring and enabling people in the 150 Big Local areas to make their communities even better places to live. As Protector I will look to provide assurance that Big Local is being properly administered. I am looking forward to meeting residents and volunteers delivering Big Local and, through my work, helping to play a part in the successful delivery of this very ambitious and radical programme”
