This guidance sets out the importance of equality and diversity in making Big Local a success, and the principles that all partnerships should recognise and embrace through their work.
Big Local provides residents in 150 areas across England with the exciting opportunity to draw on at least £1 million of funding to make a positive and lasting positive difference to their communities. Big Local is about bringing together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live. Every Big Local area is different, however areas include individuals with a wide range of different cultures, perspectives and experiences. Valuing equality and diversity is therefore key to the success of the Big Local programme.
Local Trust sets out its own commitments to equality and diversity here. We expect Big Local areas to develop their own approaches to promoting and achieving equality and diversity in their areas. This statement sets out the guiding principles we expect of Big Local areas to follow in doing so.
We recognise that Locally Trusted Organisations will have their own equality and diversity policies in place, which will need to be taken into account when Big Local areas are dealing with issues around employment. Whilst we are not responsible for the content of those policies, we would expect them, as a minimum, to meet their statutory obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and to be consistent with the principles set out above.
