Resident charter workshop
A series of workshops designed to help us explore ways we can have more of a voice in the planning process
Resident charters or deals are a way to gain formal agreement from councils or developers on the way existing residents will be treated during and after a regeneration. They are also used by some Housing Associations to demonstrate their commitment to tenants.
Developing a charter is not a fast activity – it can take a long time to gain agreement between communities and developers on what is needed, but they can really help hold developers to account. Charters are also recommended by Government as a way to ensure resident rights are protected and that they are treated fairly during a time of change and upheaval.
This workshop will look at examples of Resident Charters, how they have been developed and what they contain, to help anyone looking to develop a more robust and published agreement on the things residents can expect from a good regeneration or development.
We will also consider how a charter can be used for other agreements between Big Local groups and institutions, so that communities have evidence of commitment when key council or other development partner members change. This helps reduce the time and effort needed to keep conversations going when people change jobs.
