Sompting

Save area

Sompting Big Local area is in Adur, West Sussex. Around 7,000 people live in the area.

At our December 2013 steering group meeting we elected two joint-chairs. They are Jonathan Paine and Trevor Crowter. A vice-chair and a finance officer were also elected. These elected members of the newly formed partnership will stay in post until our December 2014 AGM.

Apart from our coordinator, Jacqui, we are all volunteers. Most of us have full time jobs and families. But we all want to see the environment in and around Sompting improve. We all live locally. We meet formally every month at the moment, but we tend to bump into each other in the Hub for a coffee and chat at all sorts of times.

As we are all volunteers we are not allowed to hold any funds, these are kept for us by our Locally Trusted Organisation – Adur Voluntary Action.

We currently have 16 people on the partnership from the community and the local voluntary and statutory bodies. These individuals and organisations will change as we progress . We anticipate that over time, as we grow and engage with more residents and supporting bodies, that the partnership will grow in strength. We also have a small number of residents who are volunteers that help with the activites that Jacqui has set up and some that volunteer in the hub, keeping it welcoming, neat and tidy and making the teas and coffees for our visitors.
