In this exciting addition to our Diversity & Inclusion series, Dr Mena Fombo will hold an hour-long talk focusing on race, power and privilege with tools and resources to hold future powerful conversations about racism and allyship. Dr Mena will share personal experience and testimony before opening the discussion to the group where these issues will be unpacked.
During this session, attendees will:
- Gain knowledge on race, power and privilege that can be directly applied to Big Local areas
- Learn how to hold future conversations in Big Local areas about racism and allyship
- Learn to identify opportunities where they can exercise their own privilege
- Utilise valuable resources to promote anti-racist practice
The workshop will be led by Dr Mena Fombo.
Dr Mena Fombo is a purposeful coach, facilitator, motivational speaker and a diversity consultant. She is the co-founder of Blak Wave Productions recently directing for the BBC Home Carnival Queen. She is the founder and director of Black Girl Convention the largest event in the region supporting women and girls of African and Caribbean heritage and the co-founder of Bristol African Caribbean Culture Space. She is a TEDxBristol speaker with the No. You Cannot Touch My Hair campaign. In 2019 she was voted woman of the year and awarded an Honorary Doctorate from University West of England for services to Gender, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic equalities work. She is also the international ambassador for the city of Bristol.
