This session is a chance to learn more about the issue of homelessness with Centre for Homelessness Impact, who work closely with communities to help tackle challenges related to homelessness.
Homelessness in the UK
With homelessness on the rise in the UK, supporting individuals who find themselves in a precarious housing situation is becoming an increasing area of concern for many communities.
There are many different types of homelessness, not all of which are visible. This makes it hard to quantify the scale of the challenges faced by those in our communities.
Shelter estimated that 280,000 people were homeless in England as of December 2019, and the Centre for Homelessness Impact suggests as many as 40,000 people are sleeping rough each year.
Whilst there has been national efforts to provide temporary accommodation to all during the pandemic, long term and place-specific solutions are still needed.
