Tonge with the Haulgh

Tonge with The Haulgh is an area in East Bolton with a population of about 13,000 and covers a diverse area steeped in Bolton’s industrial and pre-industrial heritage. It is made up of a number of different areas and communities with distinct histories including Tonge Moor, Tonge Fold and The Haulgh. The whole area is bounded by the main Bolton - Blackburn railway line to the north west, St Peter’s Way (A666) to the south west and Crompton Way (A58) to the east. Although densely populated in parts it includes large open spaces such as Seven Acres Country Park to the east, Tonge Cemetery and Bradford Park to the south.

It has a number of smaller public open spaces and play areas. The area contains three small rivers running off the West Lancashire Moors which converge at the southern end of the ward (River Croal, River Tonge and Bradshaw Brook).
