The Eastern Sheppey Big Local area is on the eastern end of the Isle of Sheppey, and made up of a cluster of small rural villages, including Warden Bay, Eastchurch and the seaside resort of Leysdown-on-sea, all based within the wards of Leysdown and Warden, and Sheppey Central.
Eastern Sheppey Big Local now has a working group following elections held in September 2013. Seven local people were appointed as representatives from the areas of Eastchurch, Leysdown and Warden, with four organisations also having representative members including; Isle of Sheppey Academy, Sheppey Together, Swale Borough Council and Swale Community and Voluntary Services.
Since December 2012 the community outreach team engaged with local residents to get opinions on how the area could be made an even better place to live over the next ten years. During this time they received information from 1,353 people locally which is almost 21% of the population and this produced 152 suggested projects that were categorised under the seven work areas identified in the draft local profile. Following a public prioritising event the number of ideas being taken forward for consideration for funding was reduced to 51 and these are now going to form part of the Big Local plan that the working group are now progressing.
