Conniburrow is an urban neighbourhood which directly borders the central Milton Keynes city centre shopping area. It is an ethnically and socially diverse community of approximately 3,260 people. The estate is served by two schools, Germander Park and Southwood, as well as a children's centre. There are several independent shops and businesses based on the estate who compete with the nearby city centre offer.
Following elections on the estate the Big Local Conniburrow partnership was established and this coincided with the adoption of our Big Local plan. The partnership comprises of eleven voting members who are residents of the estate as well as four non-voting stakeholder members who represent the local schools, children’s centre, local church and MK Dons Sports Educational Trust. The partnership has also commissioned the service of a community and volunteer co-ordinator and a project co-ordinator to help advance its work.
Public consultation has led to our establishing our three priorities; (1) conniburrow pride; (2) building social cohesion and (3) improving the physical infrastructure.
Our Conniburrow vision is “to transform Conniburrow into a place where residents choose to stay for a long time; to support residents to build a proud, empowered and cohesive community where strong and positive relationships are developed regardless of background or circumstances – simply to be Conniburrow and proud!”
