Big Local

Bountagu (Bounces-Montagu)

Bountagu is our name for the Bounces Road / Montagu Road Big Local area.

Bountagu is on the eastern fringe of the Lower Edmonton Ward and incorporates two social housing estates – Bounces Road in the north and Barrowfield in the south. The population is about 29% white British, with a high number of people of Turkish, Black Caribbean and Black African origin.

We have consulted widely throughout Bountagu, by talking to people, through outreach events / roadshows and conducting questionnaires. That way, we have been able to collect the opinions and suggestions of residents, and their key priorities for Bountagu.

The current priorities for Bountagu are:

Children and young people
We need more facilities and activities for children and young people, to promote more active, healthier and positive lifestyles.

Developing opportunities for local people
Bountagu is short of employment and training opportunities for local people. New businesses need more support.

Building a Bountagu community
Bountagu is a diverse community but integration and community spirit have been lacking. Until now, there has been no community hub and not enough activities and events open to all.

Environment and facilities
Residents commonly complain about fly tipping, dumped rubbish and dog mess. Outdoor spaces are very scarce in Bountagu.

Older people
Older people don’t get the support they deserve and there are too few activities for them.
