About this event

This event is now fully booked

We know that the environment is a priority for many Big Local areas. This learning and networking event will look at how environmental activities and green space projects can develop in many directions and link to and support other priorities as well.

For example, possibilities include:

  • Work with young people and children, creating safer more accessible and better used play spaces.
  • Putting green spaces to work for local food production with links to healthy eating and wellbeing.
  • Activities for people with assessed social needs.
  • Activities for older people including ‘green gym’ physical activities.
  • Skills training that can provide qualifications and offer enterprise opportunities.
  • Work on civic pride through participating in local, regional or national celebrations or festivals. Developing partnerships with local councils.
  • Communities taking responsibility for owning and/or managing local green assets.
  • Increased use of front and back gardens where these exist.

The aim of the day is to help you to develop your environment work for the long term to bring your community together, make people feel proud of their area, develop skills and enterprise, and contribute to other priorities.

The event will include sessions on the things we all need to know as well as small group ‘taster’ sessions where you can learn about and discuss ideas and examples that may be new. Sessions will include input from Big Local areas and from other organisations outside of Big Local.
