Shared Assets support offer for Big Local areas is now open

Our latest partnership with Shared Assets will help areas with land projects

December 2017

In September we announced our partnership with Shared Assets to support Big Local areas develop and share skills to manage land – such as parks, waterways, woodlands and green spaces. We are now opening this support offer to Big Local areas looking to transform neglected or underused land into useful and productive spaces that support livelihoods and bring important benefits to the community. The deadline for all proposals is 16 February 2018.

Thanks to the contribution of everyone that took part in the research and attended the event the event last month, Shared Assets built a picture of the issues partnerships face with land projects and have created a bespoke support package for Big Local areas who would like to access specialist support for their land-based projects.

Local Trust will pay 50% of the total cost and Big Local areas will meet the other 50% from their Big Local funding. This is a pilot programme.

The offer recognises that areas will be at different stages of development and will therefore have different support requirements. Shared Assets have set out a menu of options, so areas can choose what option or options will be most appropriate for their project.

The list of support options has been split into three delivery phases, but areas can select options from any phase, depending on project requirements:

Scoping Phase - for areas either in the very early stages, or those considering on a land project for the first time.

Structuring Phase - for areas that have identified or acquired land and require support to move forward.

Launch Phase - for areas that have governance structures and business models in place, but are looking to either take their project to the next stage or a re-examination of their procedures.

Accessing the support

  • Tell us about your project and the support you require by completing a Support proposal. Send it to the programmes team by Friday 16 February 2018. You will need to confirm that the proposal has been agreed and endorsed by the partnership.
  • Shared Assets will review proposals as they are submitted, as we recognise that there are areas which will require support before the submission deadline.
  • On receipt of your proposal Shared Assets will be in touch to discuss how they might be able to support you and agree which options from the menus will best meet your needs.
  • If Shared Assets decide they can provide support with your proposal, a budget will be agreed, which will form part of a Memorandum of Understanding between Shared Assets and your Big Local partnership. Local Trust will then send confirmation of the match funding. This process will take up to 4 weeks from the date that your proposal is submitted.

Important information for areas

  • Costs are set out in the list of support options and are split to show the amount that Big Local areas and Local Trust will pay.
  • Costs are indicative and based on day rates for Shared Assets’ time. Any variations will be agreed in advance between the partnership, Shared Assets and Local Trust.
  • Payment for the support package will be made directly by Local Trust on behalf of areas.
  • Once the support has been confirmed you have 3 months to begin working with Shared Assets.
  • Big Local areas will have up to 1 year from the date they start working with Shared Assets to complete their support, on the basis that the costs and match funding were agreed.
  • Shared Assets will report back to Big Local partnerships on the support provided within the timescales set out in the Memorandum of Understanding.
