New trustee appointments announced at Local Trust
By Mark Breen, communications and public affairs co-ordinator
Alice Casey, Daniel Goodwin, Karen Riches and Shazad Sarwar have been appointed as new trustees to the board of Local Trust.
Local Trust’s first and major responsibility is to deliver Big Local, an exciting opportunity for residents in 150 areas around England to use at least £1m in each area to make a massive and lasting positive difference to their communities.
Big Local is funded by a Big Lottery Fund investment of over £200m. Local Trust believe that people who live, work or socialise in an area know what they need and have the solutions to make it happen.
Alice Casey has spent her career working with public services, government and the voluntary sector aiming to enable greater citizen involvement in the decisions that affect people’s lives. Alice works at Nesta, an innovation charity that funds innovative ideas with a social impact.
Daniel Goodwin has worked in local government for over 30 years and was previously executive director of finance and policy at the Local Government Association and chief executive of St Albans City & District Council. He contributes widely on local government policy and operational matters. At present, he is working on a range of consultancy projects with both local government and health.
Karen Riches is a communications consultant, with 15 years’ experience of helping public sector and not for profit organisations communicate better. Karen is a founding director of Grant Riches Communications, an award winning communications consultancy.
Shazad Sarwar has over two decades experience working in the public, private and the voluntary sector at both strategic and operational level, including developing and leading a youth charity, Government adviser, leading on cultural diversity for the media industry and board roles in the policing and health sector. Shazad is currently non-executive director of East Lancashire Hospital Trust and former independent member of Lancashire Police Authority.
Kevin Sugrue, chair of Local Trust, welcomed the new trustees and said:
"We are pleased to announce these appointments. We were looking for a blend of expertise and knowledge to complement our current trustees. Alice, Daniel, Karen and Shazad bring a wealth of experience that will benefit our work considerably and we look forward to working with them as we continue to support Big Local areas."
