Curator call out
Pop-up Museum of Big Local Artefacts
Closing date: 20 April 2018
Big Local Connects is an event taking place on 29-30 June 2018 at RIBA in London. The event is the first time Local Trust has attempted to bring together all of the 150 areas taking part in Big Local – an expected 400 people.
Alongside 2 busy and demanding days of workshop sessions, learning, ideas and conversation there will be quiet areas for chilling out, solitude and reflection. We will also dedicate an area to our pop-up Museum of Big Local Artefacts – a temporary collection of objects and ephemera which together capture the diversity of people and places connected by Big Local. Our hope is that the collection of objects will offer an interesting perspective on the places, achievements and interests of residents involved in delivering Big Local – however it is primarily positioned as a fun and light component within a wider event, and is not part of our evaluation of Big Local not an academic project.
We are seeking a curator whose role will be to assemble, catalogue, manage and present/display the artefacts that form the museum. They will also promote participation by Big Local areas attending the event, and support them by answering questions etc, and help to communicate quirky and interesting stories or ideas revealed by the choice of objects.
This is a paid freelance role, expected to span 6-8 days, and we are currently seeking proposals from curators interested in delivering the project.
