Artist call out
Looking for three artists to do battle at a national conference in RIBA
Closing date: 11 June 2018
We are looking for artists to each create a piece of art in 45 minutes on the themes of community, volunteering, change and leadership. At the end of the session, our friends at Art Battle will coordinate a vote on who best captures the spirit of Big Local.
Offer: £400 plus travel expenses
Guidelines: We need to pick our three artists who will come and do battle. Please submit a piece of your work you think most fits with our brief; this doesn’t need to be the work you create on the day, we just need to see what you can do! Along with this, please send a couple of sentences about what you might do on the day and why our volunteers would vote for your artwork. Artists can use any medium that would not damage the venue (there will be some protection for the floor) and the resulting artwork needs to be family-friendly. Big Local is the project that puts communities in the driving seat, providing resources and support over ten years that enables residents to make a difference to the things that matter most to them in their community. Whether it is refurbishing that old playpark; providing grants for employment training; equipping communities to address gang violence; or getting residents’ voices heard by those who make decisions that affect their lives, Big Local is there. Each year we bring together hundreds of volunteers who lead the project in their area for two days of events that motivate and inspire them to keep driving the changes that make their areas even better places to live. Some of the events develop skills, introduce new ideas, make connections with others, or provide information on important changes. Other events offer inspiration and motivation alongside a shot of fun and excitement – and this is where you come in. Our event is on the 29th of June at the Royal Institute of British Architects – an Art Deco legend in Central London. Potential participants will need to be available from around 2pm for a briefing, and the main session will be 5:45-6:45pm. If artists wish to keep their piece they can do so.
Deadline: 11th of June for submissions; applicants will be notified by the 18th of June if successful.
